2002
Roots in carpentry
After a 3-year Carpentry apprenticeship, our founder Layton Stevens went solo in 2002 and started a 6 man first fix carpentry team. This team quickly grew and turned into a multi team business over the following 3-4 years.
2006
Opportunity came knocking on the Door
As a result of many frustrating moments on the carpentry sites with the Structural steel, Layton began to think about producing Residential Structural steel as an additional service to grow the business. This quickly led to the first few steel packages arriving on site and subsequently Stevens Structural was off and racing.
2008
First Official HQ
True humble beginnings, Stevens originally operated from a 40m2 workshop in the Adelaide suburbs. The team made it work. It didn't take long before a larger space was needed and a 660m2 shed became Stevens Group’s first-ever headquarters.
2008
Partnership formed
With the business booming, Layton brought in Ben Gray, a second-year apprentice with exceptional promise, as a partner. With Ben’s team leadership and commitment to quality standards the partnership soon helped propel the company into its next growth phase.
2010~2016
Scaling up
The company transitioned from residential to commercial projects, growing the team to over 100 staff. This period marked a significant scaling up of operations, positioning Stevens Group as a major player in the industry. The growth trajectory necessitated a larger space. The move to Mirage Rd Direk was not just about getting a new address; it was about laying the foundation for future growth with new machinery and bigger projects.
2021
Melbourne
Expanding into Melbourne was a bold step, illustrating Stevens Group’s ambition and commitment to being a national leader in the construction industry.
