At Stevens Group, we’re passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent and strengthening our ties with the local community. As part of our ongoing partnership with St Patrick’s College, we recently hosted their teaching staff for a visit, offering an inside look into our operations and the career opportunities available in the steel industry.

The visit began with an introduction to our company’s history, an overview of our diverse departments, and an exploration of the skills and talents we seek in our team members. The group also gained insight into the career paths available at Stevens Group, from apprenticeships to project management roles.

Following a safety induction, the staff split into three groups to explore different areas of our operations:

  1. Apprentice Shed Tour: Director, Layton Stevens, led a visit to the apprentice shed, showcasing how we mentor and train the next generation of skilled workers.
  2. Workshop Insights: Workshop Manager Matt Ross provided a behind-the-scenes look at the tools, machinery, and workflows that keep our operations running smoothly.
  3. Professional Divisions: Kenny, Jordan, Eddy, and Rob gave a presentation on Estimating, Steel Detailing, and Project Management, offering a glimpse into the critical roles behind the scenes.

This visit highlighted our established relationship with St Patrick’s College. Over the years, we’ve welcomed their students into our workshop for work experience placements, school-based apprenticeships, and full-time apprenticeships. Several of our current apprentices are proud alumni of St Patrick’s.

Looking ahead, this visit marks the beginning of a new phase in our partnership. We’re excited to explore opportunities to make the steel industry more appealing to Year 10 and 11 students and to support teaching initiatives with project work and real-world workplace experiences.

We hope the visit was both insightful and enjoyable for the St Patrick’s College staff.

Together, we’re working to inspire the next generation and build a stronger future for our industry.
