Stevens Group’s journey began with Layton Stevens’ pioneering vision in first fix carpentry. Starting as a solo venture in 2002 with a six-man team, Layton swiftly expanded operations, transforming the business into a dynamic multi-team enterprise. This evolution marked the foundation of Stevens Group, originally rooted in carpentry, now flourishing as a prominent force in structural steel fabrication.

Due to frequent frustrations with structural steel on carpentry sites, Layton envisioned producing residential structural steel as an additional service to grow the business. This led to the arrival of the first few steel packages on site, marking the launch of Stevens Structural.

Over the past 20 years, the company has experienced significant growth while preserving its grassroots. Stevens First Fix Carpentry continues to operate under the Stevens umbrella, benefiting from being an integral part of a stable and growing company.

Our First Fix Carpentry team exclusively works with timber. This involves the installation of structural elements such as the installation of stud walls, floor trusses, roof trusses, timber flooring for both single- and two-story dwellings. It also includes work like window installation.

While first fix carpentry components typically become hidden upon completion of a building, precision remains essential. Accurately adhering to measurements and drawings, and correctly installing components with designated fittings, ensures seamless integration and structural integrity throughout the construction process.

In essence, first fix carpentry lays the groundwork for everything else that follows in a building project. Our team establishes the structure on which all other trades will rely.

Our full time First Fix Carpentry apprenticeship program extends over four years, offering apprentices the opportunity to master their skills in this field.

Upon receiving your application for the First Fix Carpentry Apprenticeship, we will invite you for an in-person interview. Should the interview be successful, you will be required to complete a paid work trial. If you excel during the trial, we will extend an offer for the apprenticeship.
